What we develop

Activity 1: International Report

Research the current state-of-the-art in the usage and the teaching of sensitive language towards disabilities in partners national languages. This will be merged in a Trans-National Report. International mobilities study the results of this research to train the target group for using inclusive language in everyday life and in the workplace.

Activity 2: Learning Mobility I

The activity takes place in Milan, Italy. Twenty-four adult trainers, teachers, educators and three experienced non-formal education trainers participate in the activity. The training focuses on how to address sensitive issues in communication and the problems related to a biased usage of language toward people with disabilities. The educational methodology of the four days activity is based on Non-Formal Education.

The host organization, FightTheStroke, shows and shares successful methodologies with the partners to address the necessary steps in communication with people with disabilities. The programme content consists of the following questions.

– How to recognize what is acceptable?
– How to address misbehaviour?
– How to empathize with the disparaged subject?
– What are the alternatives?
– How can I do my part?
– How to address discrimination in communication?

Activity 3: Learning Mobility II

The activity takes place in Valencia, Spain. Twenty-four adult trainers, teachers, educators and three experienced non-formal education trainers participate in the activity that focused on changing language behaviours related to biased language usage towards people with disabilities.

The host organization, Uno, uses its expertise to share successful methodologies with the partners to address the communication with people with disabilities. The basic programme of the activity is as follows.

– How to choose the right words in the proper context?
– How to create a safe space for those who misbehave?
– How to foster empathy to push for a change?
– How to face a complex topic?
– What we can all do?
– How to change language behaviours?

Activity 4: Learning Mobility III

ILA will host the activity in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Twenty-four adult trainers, teachers, educators and three experienced non-formal education trainers participate in the activity. Partners present the current state-of-the-art in using and teaching sensitive language for disabilities in partner countries.

ILA informs participants about the successful methodologies from the Netherlands for sensitive communication. Workshops address choosing the right words in the proper context and creating a safe space for those who misbehave. Yet it is the last activity Amsterdam learning mobility hosts general evaluation sessions for past activities and the READY Toolkit drafting workshop.

Activity 5: READY Toolkit

The ToolKit comprehends all research implemented in partner countries, the methodologies and workshops created during the project, and the local phase of activities. The ToolKit will be available in English, Spanish, Italian and Dutch and downloadable from the project website for free.
